Day & Night Land is an ongoing series that presents paintings depicting groups of people performing the same activity in the same space. The scenes are stylized and full of expressive colors. The exaggerated one-dimensionality of Bike Land, Swim Land, and Cloud 69 invites viewers to step outside of their own behavior, while the illustrative nature of the paintings reminds us to take ourselves a little less seriously. These pieces offer light hearted glimpses into worlds characterized by togetherness and leisure activities, my effort to inject some lightness and simplicity into both my art practice and the world. The characters in the scenes reflect the diversity I see around me. Representation is important and I want all viewers to be able to connect with the worlds depicted. Come to Day & Night Land and pause to ponder the complexity and strangeness of human behavior, tradition, and society!
